Will Desiigner’s “Timmy Turner” help him climb out from the shadows of “Panda?”

It seems like every hip-hop head’s worst nightmares has come true… Desiigner’s “Timmy Turner” will be a definite song. The single artwork surfaced on his Instagram early Monday morning on July 11.

The “Panda” rapper’s recent 2016 XXL Freshman Class Magazine cypher had people scratching their heads wondering, “Did he just say Timmy Turner?”

His track record was off to a good start with “Panda,” holding the number one single on the Billboard Top 100 charts. Desiigner’s first full-length project, New English, took a turn south. The free-mixtape seemed to be more of a Future knock-off and too-quick-to-be-released only through the Jay z owned streaming service, Tidal.

Desiigner may have to use every piece of publicity he has left to tide fans over after his weak first project. “Timmy Turner” might be his saving grace.

The single artwork for the Kanye West’s G.O.O.D music signee plays directly into the cartoon style of the Nickelodeon show ‘Fairly Odd Parents.” Instead of the original characters tiny pink hat, Desiigner sports a pink shirt in front of Timmy Turner’s house all while blowing what we can assume is not tobacco smoke.

The 19-year-old rapper refers to the famous ‘00s animated kid’s show “Fairly God-Parents,” which followed the 10-year-old Timmy Turner on his adventures through life all while having his two-fairy godparent’s as his sidekicks. In the “Caliber” rapper’s case he wishes for a “burner,” to get a leg up on the competition in the rap game.

The infamous “Timmy Turner” remixes popped up hours after the original was posted. Whether it being EDM DJ’s mixing the Future influenced lulls of Desiigner’s voice over dance hits or up-and-coming rappers/singers taking their shot at the more interesting and confusing XXL Freshman cyphers. Then there were those who had the most notability on social media, the plethora of parodies. Whether it being an African village dancing to Desiigner’s snapping to those filling in the cadence with their own lyrics they were heavily shared.

There was preview on a Periscope web stream with G.O.O.D. Music engineer and producer Mike Dean and Desiigner earlier this month about a possible single in the works. They previewed what seemed to be what the final song would sound like. Desiigner jumped around shouting the occasional “GIT…GIT” over a haunting church choir layered with ripping snares and leveling bass.

Although Kanye West and G.O.O.D Music might have faith in Desiigner it could be this single that either keeps him relevant or files him away with the other one-hit-wonders the rap industry has experienced. Desiigner better hope that this single sparks more fans before the flame of “Panda” fizzles.
