Breaking News: Arians Granted Permission to Contact

As the fallout following the firing of men’s basketball coach Rob Jeter’s firing continues, the first domino may have fallen. This morning, it was reported among multiple sources that redshirt junior Austin Arians was requesting his full release from the program and will transfer upon his graduation. UWM Senior Associate Athletic Director Bill Behrns told Media Milwaukee that while the department would not comment further, he can confirm that Arians has been granted a release for “permission to contact.”

That means other schools can contact Arians about transferring. At the time of publishing, Arians could not be reached for comment.

Behrns told Media Milwaukee “I received an email that you were looking for a comment from Amanda Braun about some players receiving releases. I appreciate you reaching out, but we will not have a comment at this time. I can confirm that Austin was given a release for permission to contact.”

Arians was one of the key players from this season’s team, averaging 11.4 points and 3.8 rebounds per game. He was also a threat from 3-point range, connecting on 79 shots from behind the arc.

Many have expressed disappointment about the situation with Rob Jeter via social media. One of these individuals is Justin Litscher, Arians’ AAU coach. Pressure on AD Amanda Braun has been mounting ever since Rob Jeter’s firing, and the team not being allowed to enter post-season play.
