Shameless Season 8 Brings The Heat from the Fanbase

With Showtime hit show Shameless starting Emmy Rossum and William H Macy coming back from hiatus with its eighth season, fans online have more than just a piece of their mind to say to actors about storylines come and gone versus the new Frank Gallagher and his meth hub. But being regular viewers of shameless, these fans should know that you don’t mess with the Gallagher family because they fight back.

On November 16th 2017, barely a day after a Twitter rant about having an unsupportive fanbase with toxic elements, Shameless Star Cameron Monaghan posted a meme to his Instagram about Monaghan and reoccurring actor Noel Fisher with the caption: “Woah, dude, can you believe they’re still making fanart of us? Frickin’ exciting, @noelfisher. P.S. Don’t let the fact that you’re married get between us. P.S.s. #TheLongRoadHome is great so far and everyone should check it out. #mosher #douchebagcam

It’s one thing to respond to the funny gifs on a Facebook page, but it’s another thing to send a once beloved actor of the show all of the hatred for something beyond his control.

Since the second episode of Shameless season 8 earlier this fall, some fans have been very critical about the current writing for Shameless. Some sought to Twitter with their thoughts, hoping that a direct part of the show could hear them out.

Others have gone as far as to call Cameron and other Shameless stars names while leaving Noel’s role in the show alone entirely.

While response on the Instagram update have been overly positive, some even calling the post necessary, Monaghan’s wall of tweets aimed towards the mixed fan responses has not been forgotten. Monaghan since deleted those tweets, stating:

“I guess my point is that longform stories are a reflection of reality. People choose to come and go. It can be dramatic, inconvenient, tragic even. Isn’t there a beauty in that?”

As the rest of Shameless season 8 continues to air on Sunday nights over on Showtime, only time can tell how the fan response will uphold.
