Trump Refuses Election Results While Getting Flagged on Twitter

Trump continues to get flagged on Twitter as he believes the election was rigged.

Since Nov. 3, President Donald Trump has tweeted over 500 times despite Twitter continuing to flag and discredit over 300 of those tweets.

The topic of Trump’s tweets have been the idea of rigged election and various comments about voter fraud.

Twitter has continued to flag Trump’s tweets by adding, “This claim about election fraud is disputed,” while other tweets were flagged with, “Learn how voting by mail is safe and secure.”

Clicking on the Twitter flags will take users to a page or credited articles with information on why Trump’s Tweets are not completely accurate or how they may not be backed up by any real evidence.

The CEO of Twitter, Jack Dorsey, explained in a written testimony that Twitter began flagging misinformation on various Twitter accounts because users requested it.

“We applied labels to add context and limit the risk of harmful election misinformation spreading without important context,” said Dorsey.

The flagged tweets on Trump’s end began coming in as President Elect Joe Biden became the projected winner of the 2020 election. However, the flagged Tweets have continued since the results have been declared.

“Just saw the vote tabulations. There is NO WAY Biden got 80,000,000 votes!!! This was a 100% RIGGED ELECTION,” said Trump on Twitter, 23 days after Election Day.

This tweet was flagged by stating, “this claim about election fraud is disputed,” which users can click on to learn why it was disputed.

“It’s a bit shocking that a president is just online claiming that everything is fake,” said UWM political science major Abigail Marson. “We’ve never really seen anything like this, I don’t think most people know how to react to Trump’s outbursts.”

The final results of the 2020 election left Trump with over 73 million votes, as Biden won the popular vote with just over 80 million votes.

The 2020 election concluded with record high voter turnout, according to CNBC News.

“I personally don’t even think the results were close enough for Trump to be disputing as much as he has,” said Marson. “It’s honestly embarrassing, and I think a lot of people are just waiting for him to kind of give it up already.”

Trump has continued to stay active on Twitter, claiming he has won the election and that is not over.

“I know a couple Trump supporters who are starting to feel embarrassed on how Trump has been acting by refusing to concede,” said Marson. “But a lot of his supporters are standing by his side.”

Trump supporters across the country have been gathering in rallies with hope that Trump still has a chance and that the election is not over.

The election is currently in the process of certifying the results by state, which is possible until Dec.

The Trump administration has delayed this process by denying the victory of Biden, according to CNN.

“I was driving through Chicago when I saw a large gathering of Trump supporters at Millenium Park,” said Depaul University student, Morgan Ramerez. “I was surprised at first just thinking like why are they celebrating someone who lost?”

Many Trump supporters believe the mail-in ballots allowed Biden to cheat and steal the election from Trump, according to pro-trump Twitter users.

“Trump WILL NOT and SHOULD NOT concede a RIGGED fraudulent election!!,” said Pro-Trump Twitter user Wendy Moran.

This tweet was soon flagged with Twitter’s notice, “This claim about election fraud is disputed.”

“I hope Twitter continues to flag and stay on top of these audacious tweets,” said Ramerez. “It’s a beneficial system that Twitter can provide real information on things that people are just claiming.”

The Trump campaign has not yet provided any real evidence of widespread voter fraud capable of overturning the election.

“It’s just a lot of talk,” said Marson. “I don’t think anything will really happen. Trump will continue to refuse the results up until inauguration and at that point he won’t have a choice.”

Although not required by law, Trump has refused to concede the election.
