Posted on December 6, 2020December 6, 2020 by Audrianna Hutchinson Credit: Wikimedia, Gage Skidmore MILWAUKEE- As Pennsylvania turns blue, Lachoise Beamon, a 49-year-old Milwaukee office worker, could only feel slightly relieved. The presidential election of 2020 was different for everyone this year, from the increase in absentee ballots to the accusation of fraudulent votes. Some people will say that this year is no different than any other year. To Beamon, this year shows that the U.S has room for improvement. “2020 is not America’s year,” said Beamon. “If it is not COVID, then it’s social justice, if it’s not social justice, It’s human decency it’s always something.” Beamon goes on to say that she hopes that President Biden can be a restart button for America. She wants him to create an opening into something new for the future, especially for black Americans. Donethea Mack, a 34-year-old Milwaukee Aurora healthcare worker, voted for Biden in hopes that he can lower the social unrest but also start his plans that he explained in his campaign. “When we have a president, we should always hold them accountable to their original plan before they were president,” said Mack. “I feel like we should hold him accountable so then when his four years is up if he doesn’t keep his word, we can kick him out.” In Joe Biden’s plan for black America, he talks about American’s commitment to justice and how he plans to reform the justice system. When he gets into office, the first step is to pass the SAFE Justice Act. Bobby Scott created The SAFE Justice Act to reform the justice system with an evidence-based bill. Biden said that he will address the systematic misconduct that happens around the U.S in police departments. In his plan, he will reinvent community-orientated policing by investing in the original vision. “I always wanted police officers that actually understand the problems in our community,” said Beamon. “Someone who actually knows the community and grew up to know what needs to be fixed.” Mack wants the people to be the focus of the plan for America, not money or greed. She feels like the higher-ups have lost what matters in America and that the people should be kept accountable. According to Joe Biden’s official plan page, he wants to make the American dream a reality for African Americans. Joe Biden’s plan for African Americans will address environmental Racism and advance the economy. His plan will start by investing in African American Businesses and entrepreneurship. Beamon and Mack both agree that Biden’s plans sound great in a campaign and on paper but, will he be able to fulfill his promises? “I know that candidates are just trying to get votes to get in office,” said Mack. “After this election I feel that black people finally know the strength of their votes and will hold their elected president or official responsible.” To learn more about President Biden’s future plan for America, you can find it here Share this:Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window)
