Bucks take down the Nets, who can stop them now?

The Athletic

After last night’s game 7 against Brooklyn, which felt like an intense finals game 7, Milwaukee exhaled a huge sigh of relief knowing they miraculously made it out of that series on top.

But seriously…

Can the Milwaukee Bucks go all the way and win the championship this year?

Absolutely yes. After defeating the leagues greatest obstacle in the Brooklyn Nets, the Bucks are very capable of winning this year’s NBA Finals after the previous two did not go as planned.

Coming into this 2020-21 season, the Brooklyn Nets were scary. Everyone expected the Nets to be on top of the Eastern Conference with two of the best isolation players (to ever do it) finally becoming healthy.

And then January comes around, less than a month into the season and the announcement is made that the Brooklyn Nets have acquired James Harden

Leaving the NBA world shocked that this trade was official, it was now known that the Brooklyn Nets were the team to beat.

And the Bucks have done just that.

Despite all the unfortunate injuries of Kyrie Irving rolling his ankle in game 4 and James Harden having a hamstring injury in the beginning of game 1, it was still a tough matchup. The Nets played under 10 games together with the big 3 being fully healthy and in the regular season, so it wasn’t too unfamiliar for them to adjust to this.

Kevin Durant’s average of 35, 10, 5 in this series was true poetry in motion and a legendary display of offense to say the least. All credit is deserved to the players of both teams after this series went to 7 and even an OT in their final meeting. The Bucks came out on top and are now heading to the Eastern Conference Finals, where they have a bit of familiarity with.

So, what’s next for Milwaukee?

Milwaukee will be playing the Atlanta Hawks in the Eastern Conference finals. This is the Hawks’ first visit back since 2015 while under current Milwaukee Bucks head coach, Mike Budenholzer. Milwaukee will hold homecourt advantage for game 1 and 2 for being the higher seed (3). Milwaukee beat Atlanta by an average of 12.5 points in 2 of their 3 meetings in the 2020-21 regular season. Game 1 will be played on Wednesday, Jun. 23 on TNT.
