Unfortunately, the King of Pop would never make it to that tour. On June 25, 2009, Michael Joseph Jackson died. Jackson’s legacy will live on through his friends, family, fans and new biopic. Recently, the King of Pop made headlines again after his estate announced that a new biopic about Jackson, titled “Michael,” is in the works. The film is set to be released in theaters in 2025, and production will start in 2023. In Jan 30, 2023, Jackson’s estate said that his nephew Jaafar Jackson would star in the biopic as his uncle. “I’m humbled and honored to bring my uncle Michael’s story to life,” said Jaafar Jackson in a recent Instagram post. “To all the fans all over the world, I’ll see you soon.” Meanwhile, the biopic plans to spend $120 million, according to the California Film Commission. The film was given a $21 million tax credit in California, according to Variety. Furthermore, the film will be produced by Lionsgate Entertainment and Graham King who has worked on “Bohemian Rhapsody.” Secondly, the film will be directed by Antoine Fuqua, who has worked on films like “Equalizer” and “Training Day.” In a recent interview with Variety magazine, King stated that after meeting with Jaafar two years ago, he said Jaafar embodies his uncles’ spirit and personality perfectly. Meanwhile, some of the film’s intimate scenes will be filmed at the Jackson family’s home Hayven Hurst in Encino, California, and at Neverland Ranch.
