Tom Connolly and Melissa Padavich are a dynamic duo with a shared passion for preserving the past, named their underground retreat “Handsome Hound”, after the passing of their cherished German short-haired pointer, whose recent passing inspired them to create a space where cherished memories can live on through the treasures that the married couple collects and shares.

“The goal is to be ourselves, have fun, and hopefully, people like it,” said Owner Tom Connolly.

With vibrant excitement, the owners recently installed new signage in front of “Handsome Hound,” their store has been evolving and thriving for a year and three months now.

The owners eagerly showcase their curated vintage items at markets throughout the year, including popular venues like Art Bar and Bay View Bash. Connecting with patrons who also appreciate the timeless charm of their collection.

“These are all recycled clothes; if they don’t sell we use them as rags,” said Connolly. “I hate the idea of cheap new stuff constantly cycling in and out; it’s gross. Older stuff is better and cooler anyway.”

Sustainability is super important because it means using things carefully now so there’s still enough for people later. Vintage shops are a big part of this because they recycle old stuff instead of always making new things, which saves resources and stops garbage from piling up.
