UWM 2025 Annual Security Report: For Better Or Worse Posted on December 15, 2025December 15, 2025 by Babatunde Otukoya Jr. MILWAUKEE-The 2025 Annual Security Report shows the effects of major crimes that occurred on the UW-Milwaukee campus. Burglaries, rape, domestic violence and car thefts have been shown as some of the most superior crimes around campus area, which were alarming to the UWM community. From 2022- 2024, the Milwaukee Police Department reported seven crimes were unnoticed and that most of the crimes that were reported were located in the Kenwood area. In the year of 2024, there were a total of 22 domestic violence cases which 11 of those were reported on campus and 11 sexual assault crimes including rape according to the annual safety report. On a campus of 22,882 students, this report is an important way for students to be aware of suspicious activity and to prevent crime from occurring. UWM has multiple ways for campus community members to report crimes, serious incidents and other emergencies to law enforcement and appropriate UWM officials. According to the report, the Milwaukee Police Department, Dean of students and the university housing office were resources to provide valuable information on crimes that can be harmful to students. The UWMPD serves an important connection with the Milwaukee Police Department on spotting out suspicious crime that could lead to something severe. Many UWM students voiced their concerns on staff members that overlooked safety incident that occurred to them on campus. “Yeah I mean between me and friends, we’ve had multiple issues happen in housing specifically,” said UWM concentration journalism major Shannon Knowski. Knowski’s comments also question the responsibility of the UWMPD and their job to investigate student issues when reported. “I know some of my friends even went to UWMPD and it just feels like there’s a lot of red tape around what they can actually do because it’s student on student,” said Knowski. UWM commuter Ashton Phonoasay says if students are to go hang out, they should be around a lot of friends who will be by their side for safety. “Knowing that there are a lot of younger people who like to go out and have fun, they should be aware of suspicious crime, “ said Phonosay.
