Former Las Vegas Raiders Offensive Coordinator Chip Kelly Will Still Be Paid $6 Million After Getting Fired Posted on November 24, 2025November 24, 2025 by Luke Urback Chip Kelly, now the former offensive coordinator of the Las Vegas Raiders, will be paid $6 million over the next three seasons, after being fired following Sunday’s 24-10 loss against the Cleveland Browns, according to Spotrac. “But hey, we got to win. I get it,” Kelly told NFL reporter Jay Glazer. According to Adam Schefter and Ryan McFadden of ESPN, Kelly was fired after losing to the Browns on Sunday afternoon. Kelly, earlier this offseason, signed a three-year deal with the Raiders, which made him the highest paid offensive coordinator in NFL History. Now, he is out after just 11 games as the team’s coordinator. Chip Kelly signed a 3 year contract in February to become the #Raiders OC that was reported to carry a $6M per year salary , the highest in coordinator history. 11 games later, Kelly is out and the Raiders are back to square one offensively speaking.— Spotrac (@spotrac) November 24, 2025 “I spoke with Chip Kelly earlier this evening and informed him of his release as offensive coordinator of the Raiders,” first-year coach Pete Carroll said in a statement released by the team. “I would like to thank Chip for his service and wish him all the best in the future.” Photo By: Wikimedia Commons Last week, the Raiders scored only 10 points on offense and allowed a season-high 10 sacks to the Browns. According to ESPN and McFadden, Las Vegas is tied for last in the NFL in points per game (15.0), 30th in total yards per game (268.9), 31st in rushing per game (79.5 yards), 30th in offensive EPA (minus-77.8), and 28th in red zone efficiency (48.1%). The Raiders have scored fewer than 10 points in four games — the most in the NFL. “I am grateful for the opportunity with the Raiders; bottom line in this league you have to win,” Kelly said. “I really loved those players.” Kelly helped Ohio State win a national title in 2024 with the 12th-best points per game and 5th-best in red zone touchdown rate, according to The Athletic. Raiders Head Coach Pete Carroll was hoping that this college production would translate to the NFL, especially since Kelly had previous NFL experience. “Chip has a world of experience that I’ve counted on throughout,” Carroll said. “We’re always working to continue to grow together as much as we can and be representative. … So, we’re trying to get it right.” Although there was optimism in the Raiders building for Kelly, the Raiders’ offensive production spoke for itself, which led to his eventual firing. The Raiders had many offensive struggles during Kelly’s 11-game stint with successful offensive players like Geno Smith who the Raiders traded a third-round pick for, and Ashton Jeanty, who was drafted with the 6th overall pick in last year’s NFL draft. According to McFadden, Smith has had one of the worst seasons as a starter. He has thrown for 2,367 yards, 13 touchdowns, 13 interceptions, and a completion rate of 66.6%. Smith is 29th in passer rating (82.4) and 32nd in QBR (29.2). Jeanty has also gone through his offensive struggles under Kelly, averaging only 3.6 yards per carry. The Raiders will now look to right the ship for the rest of the 2025 season and this offseason, while Kelly is out of a job, but still making that record breaking money.
