6 Milwaukee Bands You Should Be Listening To Posted on December 1, 2015December 1, 2015 by Amanda Melkonian Why not listen local? Here are 6 Milwaukee bands you should be listening to. Fever Marlene This quirky pop/rock group does Milwaukee proud. Their melodies sound experimental, while fitting seamlessly within the rock genre. Their unique rock n’ roll attitude towards pop is appreciated by more than just us locals, Fever Marlene has toured with MGMT, The Flaming Lips and Tapes N Tapes, just to name a few. The song: Khemitones Vic+Gab This Milwaukee sister duo creates light catchy pop tunes that are guaranteed to be stuck in your head the rest of the day. Think of them as a more ethereal Tegan and Sara. Check out their video for the song “Let You Down” their first single off the album “Love of Mine.” The song: Let You Down The Living Statues They’re like The Strokes meet The White Stripes meet Them Crooked Vultures, but punchier. Confused? Don’t be. Their fast pace songs and gritty guitar beg to be heard live, But for now you’ll have to settle for their latest music video for “Extra Day.” The song: Extra Day GGOOLLDD This synth-pop sensation dominated 88NINE Radio Milwaukee’s playlists this past summer. Their beats are hypnotic and instantly appealing. Try to resist the urge to dance, I dare you. The song: Gold The Gufs This list wouldn’t be complete without The Gufs, an early 90s band that got its start right here at UW-Milwaukee. This pop-rock band reached reputable fame on college radio stations nationwide through the nineties until they called it quits in 1999. However, after going their separate ways the band came back together in 2006 to go on a national tour. If you’re into classic 90s rock, then don’t deny yourself this Milwaukee favorite. The song: Smile Violent Femmes Perhaps one of the most widely known bands to come out of Milwaukee, the Violent Femmes, gained a cult-like following in the 80s. This Milwaukee throwback is making a comeback with their release of “Love Love Love Love Love,” their first new track in 15 years off their EP Happy New Year. But let’s go back to 1983 with their hit Blister in the Sun.
