Ghostbusters 2016 didn’t fulfill the expectations Posted on August 28, 2016 by Alvaro Nino de Guzman Jr. Ghostbusters (2016) Sony Pictures, LStar Capital, Village Roadshow Pictures, and The Montecito Picture Company recreated a sequel of a popular move the 1984 Ghostbusters and 1989 Ghostbuster II. The movie is produced by Ivan Reitman and Amy Pascal. Ivan Reitman produced the first two movies as well. It was directed by Paul Feig. Written by Katie Dippold and Paul Feig. Melissa McCarthy – Abby Yates Kristen Wig – Erin Gilbert Kate McKinnon – Jillian Holtzmann Leslie Jones – Patty Tolan Charles Dance – Harold Filmore Chris Hermsworth – Kevin The film is classified as comedy, fantasy and Sci-fi. It is rated as PG-13 with a running time of 116 minutes.Rating for the film: 6/10. After more than 30 years, the ghostbusters are back in town to save the city of New York. Erin Gilbert (Kristen Wig) and Abby Yates (Melissa McCarthy) are the authors of a paranormal activity book. Gilbert is a physics professor at Columbia University. Yates studies paranormal activity with Jillian Holtzmann (Kate McKinnon) at a technical college. Yates sells the book that Gilbert and she wrote in order to get money. Gilbert got fired from Columbia when the University found out about the book. Gilbert reaches Yates to take the book out of market but the only way Yates would agree is if Gilbert assist to research the paranormal activity that has been found in the city. Ghostbusters 2016 is a comedy movie. The cast was made as a female counterpart of the original movie. The cast was also selected with modern female actresses with comedy background. The movie features Melissa McCarthy and Kristen Wiig as the main stars of the movie. As well as two ladies from the Saturday Night Live cast such as Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones. Based on the past movies and shoes that cast has we can expect 116 minutes of comedy entertainment. The Ghostbusters 2016 film was funny but it wasn’t as good as I expected. If we based this movie with the two prequels this movie lacks of script. By this means that the first two movies have a better plot and script than this last Ghostbusters. The Ghostbusters 2016 film fulfilled the comedy part, the cast did a good job in personalizing their roles. Yet, the plot losses interest in certain scenes that I personally think are waste of time. The roles of some cast members like Chris Hermsworth could have done a better job. In general Melissa McCarthy did a great job doing the role of Yates. She gave to Yates that funny awkward personality that McCarthy’s roles have in other films. Leslie Jones did a well job as well playing Patty Tolan. She gave that independent and aggressive personality that we see in every episode in Saturday Night Live. As for Kate McKinnon, it was a delightful awkward version of the character that she played. The role played by Chris Hermsworth lacked of personality. I don’t think it was the actor’s fault but the role that the character played in the film. There were few moments in which his character was funny but most of the time was annoying and obnoxious. The film was exceptional for the genre given. It did had the funny moments. Although, most of the funny moment were spoiled in the preview of the film. The plot was in a way is different from the original version. In the first movie the paranormal activity is caused by a demon-god. The second movie the paranormal activity is cause by an ancient lord ghost. In the 2016 film, the paranormal activity is created by a human named Rowan North (Neil Casey). The producers were creative and funny by giving the new ghostbusters a Chinese restaurant as the headquarters. There is also more action in this film than the other two. There is a scene in which there are thousands of ghost attacking the city. The creator also brought some of the old cast members such as Bill Murray, Dan Aykroydand Ernie Hudson. Although this time the played secondary characters in the plot. The producers even brought old ghost such as the marshmallow ghost. The effects of the film were exquisite. The variety of ghost with the different special effect were good. The sound tracks of the movie brought back the old version of Ghostbusters and a new version as well. At the end, the new Ghostbusters 2016 was funny but not as good as expected. Scenes such as when the team hired Kevin (Chris Hermsworth) were worthless and pointless. For the most part it fulfilled the purpose of making Ghostbusters funny. On the other side, the producers should have focused in better dialogues between characters. I liked the movie because it was a remake of a good movie. It definitely made a modern version of ghostbusters. However, I still rate the movie with a 6/10 because the movie didn’t fulfill the expectations of the preview. Pretty much you know the whole movie just by watching the preview.
