Wrestlers Fight For Supremacy at Miramar Posted on April 17, 2016 by Logan Kohlhagen Legacy Pro Wrestling stopped by Milwaukee again Sunday for its “Night of Redemption” event. Around 50 Milwaukee residents crowded in the Miramar Theatre to watch wrestler “Ruff Crossing” take the championship belt from current champ “Eddie Smooth.” Legacy Pro Wrestling is an amateur wrestling league that travels across the entire country. Legacy’s wrestling events are family affairs. Patrons are not allowed alcohol inside the theatre, and there is no swearing. Legacy Pro Wrestling offers an exciting, sober experience for families. Photo by Logan Kohlhagen. Milwaukee-area mom Ashley Krueger brought her one-year-old son along for the event. And even though he can’t tell what’s going on, he seemed to really enjoy a wrestling group called “The Voodoo Nation.” “I think he likes the masks and costumes, they don’t scare him,” Krueger said. Legacy Pro Wrestling brings in as many kids as it does adults. Their events have become something like a tradition with David Eisner. Sunday was his third time taking his four grandchildren to Legacy Pro Wrestling. “The boys love wrestling on TV, so I thought we would try this out. The boys get so into it it’s hard not to yourself,” he said. The violence doesn’t seem to faze many of these parents. They know professional wrestling is both faked and dangerous at the same time, and so do the kids. “They know what they’re seeing isn’t real, but when they’re watching it it’s like they completely forget about that. It’s all about loving the craziness,” said Eisner. And there is a lot of craziness. Take one character for instance, “The Voodoo King Mojo McQueen.” Wearing what looks like a rusty bucket on his head with two horns protruding from the sides of his head, the man looks like something out of Greek mythological nightmare. He leads “The Voodoo Nation,” a tribe of mystic wrestlers from New Orleans who use voodoo tactics to win matches. The referees act willfully ignorant of whatever rule breaking goes on in a match. This gives the crowd another villain to root against. Shouts of “C’mon ref!” were some of the night’s most common utterances. “I hate that ref!” said one of Eisner’s grandkids at one point. Legacy Pro Wrestling won’t be coming back to Milwaukee for another month. They expect to have a few new wrestlers added to the roster.
