Nail Polish Moods: Are They a Real Thing?

You know how wearing certain color clothes say different things about the person wearing them, or how when you wear certain colors it makes you feel a certain way? Some people wear orange for energy, or blue for tranquility. Well, the same can apply to your nail polish. I call it nail polish moods.

Can the color of your nail polish affect or reflect the mood you’re in? Yes, of course! Colors, I believe, can convey different messages and even carry different energies. When picking a nail color, I always think about how I’m feeling or want to feel, the outfits I want to wear and the overall look I’m trying to go for. Nails are an important part of one’s fashion statement and can make or break your look.

My everyday style is pretty basic. I’m a jeans and t-shirt girl most of the time. Hoodies, sweats, leggings, flannel shirts, these are my uniforms. They’re usually in one of the following colors, black, gray, white, brown and navy blue. I like effortless, no-fuss looks that can easily be mixed and matched.  I play up my look by focusing on the details, makeup, accessories and nail color! All these things have the power to take a basic look to the next level.

Red manicures are timeless. They never go out of style and can spice up anyone’s look. I have a hard time thinking of another color that stands out as much as red. It just screams I’m a boss! I wear red nail polish when I’m feeling bold and confident, which is not always, if ever, my default emotion. The color red itself is hot and fiery, so if you put it on your nails, your attitude will adjust accordingly. I’m unstoppable with red nails, or at least I feel like it.

When I’m feeling like a princess, I go for pink nails! That shouldn’t be surprising since pink has long been associated with princesses. Pink is extra feminine and sometimes I just want to feel like, well, a girl! When I wear pink nail polish, I feel like I should be eating scones with the queen. I’m a princess, remember? I just feel need to be pampered. I’ll do a face mask, get a massage, all because I’m feeling extra girly. Pink nail polish helps with that.

Sometimes I don’t feel like I need any extra attention on my nails. Sometimes I just want to feel like I have my life together and under control, even when I don’t. That’s where nude polish comes in. Nude, or flesh-toned, nail polish just makes me feel like a cool, calm and collected individual. It goes with everything, so you don’t have to worry about clashing. It looks clean and adds a bit of class to any look. You just can’t go wrong with good old, sophisticated nudes, ever.

While there are days that I want to tone it down, there are also days when I want to turn it up! Sometimes I want to feel glamourous! For that, I reach for metallic and glitter nail colors. I love glitter nail polish! It lasts so long and makes me feel like a celebrity. Don’t you associate celebrities with bling? I do, and when my nails bling, I’m for sure expecting to have my picture taken and give out autographs. That never actually happens, but hey, that’s the mood I’m in when I’m rocking sparkly, shiny nails.

Then there are shades that are just fun! Yellow, apple green, orange, bright blue, and neon are all nail color options that are a bit outside of the box. They don’t follow any rules and will definitely catch everyone’s eye. You can mix and match nail colors to create a cool color scheme.

You can also get cool designs and patterns on your nails to really reflect your personality. There are so many options to choose from when selecting nail colors, and since it’s completely based your individual tastes and preferences, there’s no wrong way to do it! You can do exactly what you want.

There are many ways to express yourself these days. A popular way for most people is through their outward appearance. Fashion and beauty trends are constantly changing, but there are ways to stay stylishly relevant through it all. The key is in the details. Overlooking small parts of your appearance, like your nails, can put a damper on any great look. No matter how many beauty waves come in and out of style, a good manicure is classic and timeless.
