John Torres, the owner of WJTI-AM (1460) “Caliente,” has made the decision to put smooth jazz back in Milwaukee.

According to North Pine, This is the first time Milwaukee will get smooth jazz since 2010.

The addition of Jazz Milwaukee is an attempt to get more people to listen to smooth jazz, because of the instrumentals, the sound is very relaxing.

According to The Healthcare Administration, smooth jazz can also benefit you by lowering blood pressure, chronic pain, and even stimulating the brain

This new station will provide listeners with relaxing and comforting music right here in Milwaukee.

What’s your background with Radio?

“My name is John Torres, I’m the owner of Caliente radio, 97.9 FM and 102.5 FM along with 1460 AM. 1460 was my first station.

What’s your background in media?

I have been in media for over 40 years, I started when I was very young. I went to a broadcasting school, MSOE, UWM. After that, I got a job at a polka and country-western station. Then I got a job at WNOV, a black-oriented station and I mainly played soul music. I also worked at the Milwaukee Journal as a writer. I’ve worked on television as a reporter, but I was fortunate to find something I like in radio. I would urge anyone interested in broadcasting to try radio. It’s a great profession. It’s really a wonderful lifestyle.

When did you first get into radio?

“I started in 2007, I bought 1460 AM and it was based in Racine, and it was off the air. It was off the air because someone cut the wires, so the tower crashed. So, it had a weak signal. That’s how Is started with radio”.

So, you’re opening 102.5 FM what’s the main difference you see in opening a station now versus then?

So, when I first started, I hadn’t operated a station before, so I had a lot of questions. So, then it was a growth period. Like anything experience is a great teacher and this new station I got it for a more reasonable price, and I was more prepared for the second time around”.

How excited are you for this new station to be on air?

Well, I was nervous and excited and so far the response has been very positive. There has not been a smooth jazz station in Milwaukee in over 25 years. So, the response has been “great,” “Thank you.” So far so good!

Why should people listen to 102.5 Smooth Jazz?

Well, if you look at smooth jazz music it has been proven that this music will relax you, lower your blood pressure, improve your cholesterol, and really the instrumentals put you in a better frame of mind. Smooth jazz is music that calms the nerves. I would urge anyone to try it because it really works.

Right now smooth jazz is getting its song from the network but soon will have its own logs and a show throughout the week.
