R&B Comeback: How Brandy and Monica’s Sold-Out Tour Mastered Both the Charts and the Viral Drama Posted on December 11, 2025December 11, 2025 by Donnie Claybrooks-Carter R&B singers Monica and Brandy will conclude their highly celebrated “The Boy Is Mine Tour” this Sunday, Dec. 14, in Jacksonville, Fla. The joint venture was originally scheduled for 24 shows but, due to overwhelming popular demand, was quickly expanded to 32 stops, spanning two months across major U.S. markets. Playing sold-out and nearly sold-out arena crowds, the tour has been widely considered a major commercial success, cementing the enduring appeal of 1990s and 2000s R&B music. Despite the professional triumph and the widely celebrated on-stage reunion of the two former rivals, the show did not come without its share of drama that frequently spilled onto social media. The tour became an immediate cultural event, drawing an array of high-profile attendees who often sported the unofficial white-and-black checkered theme attire. Celebrity guests included superstar Rihanna; rapper and actress Queen Latifah; and, perhaps most notably, former first lady Michelle Obama, who stopped by when the show visited Washington, D.C. The presence of these prominent figures underscored the show’s status as a must-see concert. Despite the numerous A-list attendees, it was superstar Beyoncé’s appearance at several shows that stirred up the most significant drama online. Beyoncé and her husband, rapper Jay-Z, were reportedly seen at multiple stops on the tour to support their friend and former Destiny’s Child bandmate, Kelly Rowland, who served as a major opening act. The controversy was ignited on Tuesday, Dec. 2, when Brandy’s younger brother, Ray J, posted a fiery video message to Instagram. Ray J, known for his roles on “Moesha” and “Love & Hip Hop Hollywood,” publicly demanded that Beyoncé and Jay-Z pose for a picture with Brandy. He accused the couple of coming to several shows and allegedly walking past the singer’s room without taking the time to speak to Brandy or anyone in her camp. Ray J expressed that he and his sister were huge fans of the couple. The video went viral immediately, fueling intense fan speculation across all social media platforms about a potential, long-rumored Brandy and Beyoncé feud. Neither singer has confirmed the online speculation. The tour successfully managed the situation at the very next show stop in Atlanta on Dec. 4, where Monica playfully walked over and took Ray J’s phone on stage. This lighthearted gesture was widely viewed as an attempt to prevent him from posting anything else and to keep the focus on the music. Aside from the possible tension and a slight hiccup on their third show in Chicago related to Brandy’s health, the tour has gone off largely without a hitch. The duo kept the energy high by inviting many surprise celebrity guests to perform with them on stage, including Ciara, Fat Joe, and Kash Doll. The core lineup included American Idol winner Jamal Roberts, Kelly Rowland, and newcomer Muni Long. After Long experienced health issues, she was briefly replaced by R&B veteran Mýa for a few shows, and Keyshia Cole was tapped to finish out the tour. The final stops of the tour are all scheduled in Florida, concluding a wildly successful run that has dominated R&B news. The last three performances are scheduled for Friday, Dec. 12, in Tampa; Saturday, Dec. 13, in Miami; and Sunday, Dec. 14, in Jacksonville, cementing the tour’s status as a cultural and commercial triumph for R&B music.
