On Dec. 12, the 67th Annual Student Film Festival was held in the UWM Union; the festival is a judged showcase of projects shot, edited, and produced by students of UWM with the goal of bringing together student filmmakers, faculty and the community as a whole to celebrate the joy and magic of film. Carley Lamb, the creator of the film “Vivid” which takes a look into the movements of water and the manifestation of how color and light behave with one another, explained her love for the art of film. “I love watching film and how it’s created; it can take time to make films depending on the length of the story, but I have passion and dedication to film, I enjoy it,” said Lamb. Many others seemed to share that passion on Friday night, as the UWM union was packed with college students and middle age adults. The enthusiastic crowd cheered, laughed, and gasped with passion as they took in the films created by UWM students. In the film “Cutie and Baby” by Elizabeth Guokas, Baby comes home and just wants to relax with her boy toy, but the office and her crazy coworkers are still on her mind. The film was filled with nudity and passionate sex scenes holding nothing back, even to the point of sex in a bath tub. Surveying the audience during the film, there seemed to be no uncomfortable squirms or anyone In the world of film however, its art. All of the films, seemed to be in another world, certainly not the films many go to view in a local theater near to them, but nevertheless it was art. The annual Film Festival is an opportunity for the students of the UWM Department of Film, Video, Animation, and the New Genres to express themselves through art.
