Adventure Rock was first opened at Brookfield, Wisconsin in 1998. The second location at Riverwest was opened in 2016 and the third location in Walker’s Point was opened in 2019. Greg Brewster is an employee from Adventure Rock WKP who’s been rock climbing for four years and works at the Walker’s Point location. Brewster is passionate about Doors Open Milwaukee because, as a rock climber, he enjoys informing and working with all the people that come in to learn and try the sport.

Junior Sotelo: What kind of activities do you guys offer?

Greg Brewster: So we offer climbing and at this facility, we don’t have any ropes, so we offer bouldering only here. The other two locations have bouldering and rope climbing. All three locations offer yoga classes, climbing fundamental courses, one-on-one courses, as well as a climbing team for younger kids all the way up to high schoolers.

Junior Sotelo: What do you like the most about Adventure Rock and would you recommend others to work here?

Greg Brewster: I like the people that I work with, and the people that I get to interact with. A lot of great people climb, so it’s a very positive space. I would recommend other people to work here because I think that management is great. There’s a lot of room for growth and it’s a job that makes it easy for me to get up in the morning because I enjoy being in this space and working with the people that come in.

Junior Sotelo: How does this building contribute to the Milwaukee community?

Greg Brewster: It offers a space for advanced climbers and new climbers to work together on problems and routes. It’s a great way to introduce people to fitness. It’s a sport that is very physically demanding, but you don’t realize that when you’re doing it. It’s that much fun. We have difficulty levels ranging from somebody who’s never stepped foot in a gym to somebody who’s spent their entire life climbing. So It offers a very supportive space for people of all types to come together and exercise.

Junior Sotelo: What message do you want visitors to take away from Adventure Rock?

Greg Brewster: Don’t be scared to come in and climb. Everybody starts somewhere and the place might seem scary, but everyone’s very inviting. So if you have an interest, just come in and climb.
