Coping with Hype Posted on November 13, 2015November 13, 2015 by Amanda Porter As the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee continues to lead the state with the most diverse student body, the city of Milwaukee cannot say the same for its population. Milwaukee is currently the second most segregated city in America. Although this may come as a shock to many, others may feel the cities disparities closer to home. In 2012 University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee student, Candace Stingley, lost her younger brother, Corey Stingley, to a racially charged altercation in a suburb of Milwaukee. Facing many obstacles through her years at UWM, Stingley maintained her essence and found a way to cope and express herself through the university’s dance team, Hype, while working and building toward her future career.
