When Dreams Set Sail [AUDIO] Posted on June 9, 2023August 1, 2024 by Isabella Van Lanen EAST SANDWICH, Massachusetts — Ken Perry has been a tugboat captain for over 30 years. Throughout the decades, Ken has experienced the other side of the world, ‘The Perfect Storm’ and the loss of a fellow fisherman. He says, if he has learned one thing at sea, it is that family matters most. So, when changes that followed the pandemic allowed him to explore a career that kept him on land, he took it. Ken was looking for a piece of sportfishing equipment when he had the realization: he could make that. And who is better than someone who has used the gear for more than half his life? In the beginning, Ken had aspirations slightly above the ability of one person. He was not looking for a counterpart when Jeff came into his life. Jeff is nothing short of hardworking; making the perfect partner for Ken. The two have an indomitable spirit and they always deliver; even though they take any and all requests. Ken says their creativity drives them to think outside of the box, helping them make people’s seemingly overzealous ideas a reality. From a Ferrari-shaped sport boat to a yacht that grills weenie on the waves; nothing is too difficult for the dynamic duo. No piece of their-on-the-market boat has gone unmissed by Ken and Jeff. Ken says he’s pretty “fussy,” but Jeff is even more of a perfectionist. Yet, when asked if they thought of themselves as artists, they both replied “no,” with a crinkle of their eyes and a laugh in their voices. The two recall their pasts in a weathered warehouse workshop; cars whizzing past their whereabouts. Both say they wish they could build boats further away from the water; Ken says they dream of 100 acres. However, he says the goals can wait because they can make a perfect vessel just about anywhere, so for now it is smooth sailing. Bella Van Lanen has the story.
