The waves of Lake Michigan crash along the shore of Bradford Beach. Even though it’s April and only 40 degrees outside, people are still enjoying Lake Park.

During the lunch hour, people eat in their cars, watching the waves. Others walk their dogs. Another person, a man with long, dark facial hair wearing a neon yellow jacket, jogs alongside his friend.

The clouds and the breeze cause a chill, making it just cold enough to wear sweatshirt. If it were warmer and sunny, the beach would be crowded.

“I enjoy going to the beach with friends and playing catch,” said Jacob Diaz, a criminal justice student at UWM. “I enjoy being outside instead of in the campus atmosphere.”

Bradford Beach helps UWM students unwind, especially when school can become overwhelming. Located a mile east of the UWM campus, Lake Park has a lot to offer students. The beach is easy to access, providing many activities for visitors. From beach volleyball to football practice, there is always something going on.

Lake Park also hosts numerous events annually, including the Milwaukee Lakefront Marathon. Simply by driving along Lincoln Memorial Drive, one can see everything that being alongside Lake Michigan offers. Along with the beautiful view and the sound of the calming waves, Lake Park also provides a plethora of culture. People from all different backgrounds come together to enjoy the atmosphere. Whether it is because the stress is too much, or simply because it’s a beautiful day outside, there will always be students close to the shores of Lake Michigan.
