Biden Increases His Lead After Recounts in Milwaukee and Dane Counties Posted on December 6, 2020December 6, 2020 by Tanner Duffney Joe Biden remains the winner of the state of Wisconsin after the recount in Dane and Milwaukee counties. Biden increased his lead over Donald Trump by a small amount in Milwaukee and Dane counties after the recount. On Nov. 18, the Trump campaign asked for a recount of votes in the two Wisconsin counties. The two counties that the Trump campaign inquired about were Milwaukee and Dane county. Milwaukee and Dane county are the largest democratic counties in Wisconsin. Tanner Diring is a resident of Dane county and voted absentee this past election. Diring said that even with the recount in the two counties, he believes Trump has no chance to win the presidency. “Trump has a zero percent chance of winning the presidency and I think he’s being a sore loser,” said Diring. The recount began on Friday, Nov. 20. Colton Armijo is a Milwaukee county resident who also voted absentee in this past election. “Trump is saying the mail in votes should be recounted then he is saying some votes were rigged and should not have been counted,” said Armijo. “It’s hard to understand what he wants.” “Wisconsin has state rules that don’t allow mail in counting until election day,” said Diring, “therefore they had such an influx of mail in votes and why Trump lost.” President elect Joe Biden won 49.6% of the state’s votes compared to President Trump who had 48.9% of the votes in Wisconsin. “I believe he wants the recount because the voting system didn’t go his way and also because he has a couple months until Biden officially takes office,” said Armijo. According to the Milwaukee county clerk, there were 550,132 registered voters, and 460,300 ballots cast. In Milwaukee County, Biden received 69.13% of votes while Trump received only 29.28%. In Dane county, Biden received 75.5% of votes compared to 22.9% for Trump. These results can be found here and here. Trump has said numerous times that the election was rigged against him and that there was voter fraud committed. “No one will ever know to be honest; we just have to believe that justice was served, and our votes mattered,” said Armijo when asked about the validity of the election. Diring attended both Trump and Biden rallies near the capitol building in Madison after Biden was announced the winner of the election. “It was quite interesting to go from the Biden celebration on one end of the capitol to the Trump rally on the other side,” said Diring, “the vibe seemed to be that those people were not happy and were ready to contest the election.” The Trump campaign paid about $3 million for the recount. A recount was recently done in Georgia as well and nothing really changed.
