Chick-A-Dee’s Is a Breakfast Must

This morning for the first time ever I had breakfast at Chick-A-Dee’s family restaurant in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, my girlfriend Olivia and I went as she told me it was the best breakfast place in Eau Claire. As an avid fan of breakfast food, I decided to give the small restaurant a chance. Chick-A-Dee’s is a small family restaurant that serves traditional United States style breakfast food. Chick-A-Dee’s is open from 7 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday-Thursday and 7 a.m.-8 p.m. on Fridays. Chick-A-Dee’s is located at, 1928 3rd St. Eau Claire, Wisconsin

We arrived at Chick-A-Dee’s at 11 a.m. and entered the small restaurant. The restaurant had a small family diner feeling, there were about 20 tables that could seat a maximum of about 80 patrons. All the seating was in the front, and it was a seat yourself restaurant, no host to seat you. With all the seating in the front of the restaurant, there was a small window where one could see into the kitchen in the back.

Once Olivia and I sat down, a host named Natalie came to greet us and take our drink orders. I ordered a hot chocolate and a water, and Olivia ordered a coffee and a water. It was a hot summer day, but the restaurant was air conditioned, so I ordered a hot chocolate to warm myself up.

Natalie brought out the drinks. I got my hot chocolate in a mug loaded with whipped cream on the top and extra cocoa mix on top. Olivia got her cup of coffee along with her own coffee pot and three different types of creamers, there was hazelnut, French vanilla, and half-and-half. The waters were brought out just a minute later.

Then our server, Heather, greeted us. Heather was very personable and made Olivia and I feel at home and very comfortable in this environment. Heather always had a smile and was willing to help us or answer any questions we had about the meal.

Olivia and I then ordered our food. Olivia ordered her regular, two eggs, scrambled, two sausage links, hashbrowns and toast. I ordered a cheese omelet and two pancakes with two strips of bacon. I wanted to try multiple foods to get a good idea of how all their breakfast options.

The food came out within 15 minutes, it was super-fast, and the food smelled and looked delicious. Before I tried my food, I decided to take a sip of my hot chocolate as it had cooled down. Almost all of the whipped cream had melted into the drink by now, and the hot chocolate had cooled to just above room temperature. The hot chocolate was the perfect blend of rich and savory. The chocolate taste was strong but not overbearing. It took me back to the winter nights where I would get a warm cup of hot chocolate after shoveling snow or picking out a tree with my family.

After I had tasted and enjoyed my first few sips of hot chocolate, it was onto the main course, the breakfast food. I started with the pancakes and bacon. The two pancakes were huge. They covered the plate which was about a foot in length and overlapped in the middle. There was a small cup of butter that I used to spread on to the pancakes. I spread the butter on and watched it melt into the cakes just showing me how hot and ready they were.

Before I tried the pancakes, I had to try the bacon as bacon is my favorite breakfast food. The bacon was hot and was cooked perfectly. It wasn’t soggy and chewy or hard and crunchy it was a perfect middle ground. The bacon had so much flavor but wasn’t too greasy to the point where I felt gross when I ate the two strips. It was the best bacon I have ever eaten.

Then I moved on to the pancakes, which were huge. These were the biggest pancakes I’ve ever seen. As I cut into the pancakes, I noticed how fluffy they were. The pancakes were golden brown, soft and could easily be cut by my knife. I added some maple syrup to the pancakes and tried them for the first time, and they were almost the best pancakes I have ever eaten. They were soft in the middle and rich and flavorful with the mix of butter and bacon. Within 15 minutes, both strips of bacon and pancakes were gone.

Then I moved on to the omelet; the omelet was a perfect yellow with melted cheddar cheese in the middle. The omelet was able to be cut into easily as I tried a small piece of it. The omelet tasted great the blend of egg and cheese tasted amazing. However, the egg was a little cold, but I did wait to eat the omelet after the pancakes and bacon so that could have been my fault. The omelet still tasted good as the egg and cheese blended well together. But, after halfway through the omelet I had to give up, to try some of Olivia’s food.

I decided to try some of her hashbrowns and scrambled eggs as she told me she was not going to finish them alone. The hashbrowns were really good. They were not super oily, they were soft, and with just a little bit of salt and pepper the hashbrowns were stellar. The eggs tasted somewhat like the omelet, except a little bland without the cheese. The eggs were not my favorite as they were cold and soggy, it had been 25 minutes since they were dropped off though. I added some salt to the eggs, and it made them a lot better.

If I had to rank the foods that I tried from Chick-A-Dee’s, I would put the bacon in first place, pancakes in second place, hashbrowns in third place, the cheese omelet in fourth place, and scrambled eggs in fifth

During our meal, Heather, the waitress, checked on Olivia and I and made sure the food was tasting alright and offered to get us anything we needed. After the meal, Heather dropped off the check and told us we could pay with cash at the table or card near the front of the restaurant. I opted for cash as servers normally like cash payments.

Another thing about Chick-A-Dee’s is it is a local restaurant that is super cheap. Olivia and I got a hot chocolate, coffee, two pancakes, two strips of bacon, two scrambled eggs, two pieces of toast, hashbrowns, two sausage links, and a cheese omelet for $33.75!

Chick-A-Dee’s got the food right, it was amazing breakfast food and super cheap. Chick-A-Dee’s also got the atmosphere and the serving right as I felt at home and like the waitress cared about me and my meal the entire time. The only low part were the dishes with the eggs but that was not enough to stop me from going back for breakfast again soon.

I give Chick-A-Dee’s five stars, the service, environment, and food were perfect.
