How to Celebrate Milwaukee’s 414 Day Around the City

Inspired by the city’s 414 area code, Milwaukeeans have been celebrating April 14 since 2012, commemorating the rich, diverse community of Milwaukee and all that comes with it. This year, local organizations are celebrating with food, music and events, many for the student-friendly price of $4.14. Here’s a list of 10 organizations UWM students should check out to celebrate 414 Day.

Milwaukee Admirals

The Milwaukee Admirals are hosting a 414 Day celebration at their home game against the Chicago Wolves at 7 p.m. Friday. The team partnered up with the UWM Alumni Association to provide student tickets for $13, which also come with an Ian’s pizza coupon, according to the Admirals website. Following the game the Stone Temple Pilots rock band will perform.

The UWM Alumni Association is also providing specials for alumni, making the game an environment for UWM alumni and students to come together, according to Ana Myers, director of annual giving at UWM.

“It’s a fun night to celebrate what UWM does for this diverse, unique community,” said Myers. “It helps build that city pride; just a fun way to promote all things Milwaukee and all things UWM.”

Students must show their ID to receive their student section ticket and Ian’s pizza coupon.

Milwaukee Brewers

The Milwaukee Brewers are offering a 414 Day deal that will pay off for fans at the end of the month. From 10 a.m. to 11:59 p.m. on Friday, fans can purchase tickets for the team’s upcoming series against Detroit for $4.14.

The eligible games will take place Monday, April 24 at 6:40 p.m., Tuesday, April 25 at 6:40 p.m. and Wednesday, April 26 at 12:40 p.m., according to the Brewers website.

Historic Milwaukee, Inc.

Historic Milwaukee is hosting a 414 Day sale, selling all neighborhood posters, usually priced at $10, for $4.14 and offering $4.14 off their combo poster, which usually costs $20, according to their website.

The posters, which were designed in the late 80s by Jan Kotowicz, have symbolized the city for decades. They were re-commissioned in 2015 to include more neighborhoods and designs, according to Kat Repinski, visitor services coordinator for Historic Milwaukee.

“The new neighborhoods were added when John Gurda’s Milwaukee: City of Neighborhoods book was published,” said Repinski, “but since they were all done by the same artist they all look cohesive together.”

In addition to the poster sale, customers who spend over $100 in the store Friday and Saturday will receive a free copy of Gurda’s book, according to Repinski.
