Milwaukee’s Own: Dr. Swarnjit Arora

Dr. Swarnjit Arora is a retired economics professor at UWM who has worked in higher education for over 50 years. Born in colonial-era British Subcontinent, he had to relocate from modern day Pakistan to India (moving between refugee camps for most of his early life until he settled in Punjab), and later went on to help with India’s first government computer program before moving to the U.S. during the Vietnam War era. Now, even in retirement, he supports Indian international students at UWM and stays involved with his local Gurdwara. This short documentary, Samia Saeed follows him in a “day-in-the-life” style to explore his journey, his impact on students, and how he balances academic and spiritual life.
