With so many shows today and a lot of them playing off one another, it’s hard to find a show that doesn’t require the viewer to know so much prior. The streaming industry has really taken off these last couple years and has revolutionized the way people watch. With the convenience of streaming, it’s becoming more and more appealing and feasible for people to watch shows throughout the day. One of the more popular franchises these last couple years has been Marvel Studios with all of their new and old content on Disney+. One of the new installments to the Marvel universe has been Moon Knight, a series that just completed airing its debut season. I’m not too crazy of a Marvel fan, or even tv honestly, but the series which I quickly binged in 2-3 business days, exceeded expectations and really was a fantastic project all together. Moon Knight was a refreshing take on the Marvel universe with new characters, fantastic story telling and above all relatable content.

The big red flag to many potential watchers is just how expansive the Marvel universe is and just how much they would have to know. There’s many Marvel movies and storylines, and with so many stories in so many eras it gets confusing for some fans to keep track of the timeline of things. Luckily for the casual watcher, this is a stand-alone series with no connections to any of the other characters or timelines from the Marvel universe. Basically, it’s a 500-level college course but you need NO pre-requisite.

Getting into the film itself, this Action-Fiction starts off strong with the casting. Oscar Isaac, Ethan Hawke and F. Murray Abraham to name a few, really take their respective roles and turn them into what they are. Oscar Isaac plays the role of a shy man in modern day London trying to get through his life without chaos.  What ensues for the remainder of the season is a battle between good and bad on the outside as well as inside our main character Marc Specter. Isaac’s character appears to suffer from some form of dissociative identity disorder and his battle with himself adds another layer to the action. There is some controversy regarding the “dramatization” of the mental disorder, but I think we all can relate to having split moods sometimes, and the film does a great job of showcasing these different moods and how each one of them has their own strengths and weaknesses.

For any geography or history buffs out there, this series has great content and incredible visuals for a tv production. The story takes place in modern day, but with the power of superheroes and Marvels ability to green screen anything, don’t be surprised if the show explores other part of the world or even different times. This imaginative storytelling, execution by actors and massive budget produced by Disney really made for a great show

Getting into why I like the series personally, it defiantly has to do with the storytelling. Without giving to much away, the series really dives into mental health and the constant battle people may have with themselves. I hope everyone is always trying to get a little better everyday and this really shows the struggle but also the beauty in doing that. It helped me all while entertaining me, I that’s what I think is a truly good piece of work.
