President Donald Trump and First Lady Demanding for TV Host Jimmy Kimmel to be Fired

President Donald Trump is demanding the permanent termination of the “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” host after a comment the ABC comedian made prior to the shooting at the White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner.

Jimmy Kimmel, in the segment that was recorded Thursday, April 23 joked that First Lady Melania Trump had “a glow like an expectant widow.”

The joke was part of a routine on Jimmy Kimmel Live! where the comedian pretended to deliver a comedy routine at the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner. The segment aired two days prior to the shooting at the dinner.

Both the president and the first lady took to social media to criticize the comedian and the joke.

“People like Kimmel shouldn’t have the opportunity to enter our homes each evening to spread hate,” said the first lady on X. “Enough is enough. It is time for ABC to take a stand.  How many times will ABC’s leadership enable Kimmel’s atrocious behavior at the expense of our community.”

“I appreciate that so many people are incensed by Kimmel’s despicable call to violence, and normally would not be responsive to anything that he said but, this is something far beyond the pale,” said the President on Truth Social. “Jimmy Kimmel should be immediately fired by Disney and ABC.”

This is not the first time that the President has called for the dismissal of the television host. Kimmel was suspended from ABC last fall following his remarks on the assassination of the conservative American activist Charlie Kirk. Kimmel was later brought back by ABC and its affiliated stations.

The remarks followed a security incident at the White House Correspondent’s Association dinner on April 25. Both the President and First Lady were in attendance when 31-year-old Cole Tomas Allen allegedly exchanged gunfire with authorities at the dinner, injuring one Secret Service officer, according to the U.S. Office of Public Affairs Press Release

No other injuries have been reported.

Kimmel’s joke about the first lady also caused the White House press security Karoline Leavitt to make a statement about the incident.

“Who in their right mind says that a wife would be glowing over the potential murder of her beloved husband?” said Leavitt, at a White House briefing “and having experienced what I did with the first lady on Saturday night, I can tell you that she was anything but that.”

Allen is being charged with one count of attempt to assassinate the President of the United States, according to a Criminal Complaint

Both the president and first lady were directed to safety by the Secret Service during the incident at the Correspondents dinner according to CNN

In an Instagram post by the official Secret Service account, Deputy Director Mathew Quinn referred to Allen as a “coward” and that he “underestimated the protective capabilities of the U.S. Secret Service.”

According to NBC News, the White House has met with the Secret Service about the assassination attempt to discuss and review protocol for major events that involve the president. There are many more prominent events that the president is attending in the coming months.
