Milwaukee police say a body was found in the Milwaukee River today near Fratney and Commerce in Riverwest. According to Milwaukee police, the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Police Department also responded to the call.

(Update: on March 31, 2020, it was confirmed that the body was that of missing UWM student Sean Baek. You can read that story here.)

The body found today has yet to be identified, according to the Milwaukee County Medical Examiner’s Office, which told Media Milwaukee that they have received a body discovered in the river.

The body was found around 5 p.m. March 30 and was that of a male, police said. The body appears to be of a person around 20 years old, CBS 58 reported.

On Feb. 14, 2020, Sean Baek, an 18-year-old student at UW-Milwaukee, went missing. He was last seen heading toward the Milwaukee River behind Cambridge Commons residence hall, UWM Police Chief Joseph LeMire said in a previous interview.

However, when contacted about the body being found, the UWM police declined to comment, saying they couldn’t confirm or deny anything about it, including the identity.
