El Senorial is a Mexican Restaurant on South 31^st Street on the South Side of Milwaukee. They serve authentic Mexican food with the authentic environment to match. I am not sure on how long the restaurant the restaurant has been in business or who the owner is. I do know that they have been in business a while due to my father enjoying their meals for years. The south side of Milwaukee has been known for great Mexican restaurants and this is the best place I know! Even though there are many Mexican restaurants in Milwaukee and near my hometown, Walworth, WI, my family tends to travel from home just to enjoy this one. My parents recently came to Milwaukee for my birthday to go out to lunch and visit. This restaurant has my favorite Mexican food and as well as my fathers, so of course we went to El Senorial. Inside the restaurant there is an old authentic Mexico feel of the restaurant. The chairs, tables and booths are all made of wood with the backing or the chairs and the booths have, “El Senorial” carved into them. The walls are decorated with sombreros in between each window. The restaurant is large and very well kept with the floors spotless and the tables always set for two with placemats and rolls of silverware.  The placemats match the environment. Fun and enjoyable. The placemats have fun party items in the background with the words, “Mexican Fiesta” printed right in the middle of the placemat. This shows me that the restaurant is laid back and is an easy-going establishment. When you walk in the restaurant you are seated by most likely who is going to be your server. Being an authentic Mexican restaurant, the servers and the other workers spoke Spanish. After being seated a bus boy came by to give us glasses with ice water fairly quickly after we had been seated. When the server returned, she greeted our table she said, “Hola como estas?” Even though she greeted our table in Spanish, she did speak English. As she greeted us she placed a basket of chips and salsa on our table.

We then ordered our food and handed our menus back. Our food was out and in front of us within 15 minutes. She asked us if we needed anything else and of course we did not. The service was great and the food came out quickly and was beyond delicious. I had three barbacoa tacos with the rice and beans. Barbacoa is a very fine type of beer that falls apart at the touch and is filled with flavor. I get my tacos on corn shells. El Senorial makes the perfect shells they are not too hard nor soft making them the perfect texture to hold to insides without them falling through. One of the toppings for the tacos are my absolute favorite at this restaurant because it is different than the others. The cheese.

The cheese on the tacos is white and is not thin cut. It is thick in width and somewhat thick in depth but it is shredded. Everytime I order these tacos and the waitress walks away I also say, “wow, I love this cheese” to my parents. I also ask for salsa verde to put on my tacos to spice them up some. The lettuce is also chopped thin so it is not the taco filler like at Taco Bell or other restaurants. A big deal breaker for me at Mexican restaurants are the rice and beans. I am very particular with the rice usually but the beans at El Senorial are the best beans I have ever had.

The rice has an orange color to it, and is soft but not mushy. The rice has a rich flavor just like the rice my grandmother makes. I like to mix my beans into my rice and this is the best place to do it. The beans are smooth and thin, but not runny and have no chunks which makes them easier to mix with the rice. They are for sure not from a can because they are rich in color with a reddish tint to them and topped with that amazing cheese from the tacos. El Senorial’s three taco dinner meal is my all-time favorite. Making El Senorial at the top of my dining out list.
