Sweet Diner – A Go-To Breakfast and Lunch Destination Posted on December 24, 2017 by Abigail Chmelka https://www.sweetdiner.com/ Address: 239 E Chicago St #103, Milwaukee, WI 53202 Cuisine – American Price – $$$ Hours: Monday 6AM–4PM Tuesday 6AM–4PM Wednesday 6AM–4PM Thursday 6AM–4PM Friday 6AM–4PM Saturday 6AM–4PM Sunday 6AM–4PM Phone: (414) 488-9600 Credit Cards Accepted It was a chilly Milwaukee, Wisconsin winter day and my manager decided we should walk somewhere close for lunch in the Third Ward. While it usually takes us all a while to decide which location we should go to, my manager quickly suggested Sweet Diner on East Chicago Street. “I usually never go to restaurants twice since there’s always a new place opening up,” she said. “However, Sweet Diner was so good, I just have to go again.” After trying, I can personally agree that Sweet Diner isn’t just a one-time destination, but a go-to spot for several occasions. Like several buildings in the Third Ward, the outside is just a simple brick building, always making one wonder what the inside holds. I did not know what to expect. Walking in, I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of light that filled the place. The modern and hip interior consisted of whites and creams with dark brick walls to add contrast. The first thing you see is the sleek bar at the front which serves fresh juices, beers on tap, coffees, cocktails and more. Our pleasant waitress brought us to a table by the window which was nice so we could enjoy the natural light. Looking at the menu, breakfast is served until close which is nice in case you’re craving it. I was really in the mood for a salad, and they had a few great options to choose from. They had the option of adding protein to each salad for an extra cost. I got the Third Ward salad which was made with cranberries, nut/seed blend, dates, apple slices, mixed greens with orange kefir dressing for an affordable price of $10. My coworkers also got salads; we were trying to stay healthy that day. One thing I did notice was that the breakfasts look delectable and scrumptious. It’s a must try that I even have yet to indulge in. They had waffles, pancakes, skillet bowls, French toast and much more. I regret even trying to be healthy with their menu. I really appreciated that they have something for everybody. From sweet to salty they have an option to suit all taste buds and cravings. Our food took a little while to come, which we thought was weird since we all only got salads. It was a little busy for the time, however, and it was worth the wait. Our waitress had a really upbeat personality and checked in with us often to make sure we were doing well. The only critique I have about my salad was that the apple slices were chopped way too large that it was difficult to eat. My manager said she hardly got any dressing on hers and asked for more. Other than that, everything was flavorful and the portions were larger than I thought they would be which was a pleasant surprise. My coworkers and I, working in the business field, instantly thought it’d be the perfect atmosphere to take a client for a meeting or a get to know one another outing. The modern and chic aesthetic would make it a great place to stop with friends during a day of shopping. I personally think it would make a fun date location for couples looking to try something new. My only concern would be finding parking, but if you’ve been to the Third Ward before, you’re already aware of that issue. Otherwise, Sweet Diner will be your new go-to spot after the first time you try it, and I highly recommend it to everyone.
