UW-Milwaukee Students Safe After London Terror Attack Posted on March 22, 2017March 22, 2017 by Miela Fetaw After four people died in a London attack Wednesday, UW-Milwaukee confirms all of its students studying abroad in the city are accounted for and safe. That assurance comes from UWM Study Abroad Director Mark Eckman. UWM is currently on Spring Break week. “As of 3/22/17, there are 98 students/participants currently registered as traveling abroad. 9 of those are located within the UK, 7 of those in England, and 2 in London,” Eckman told Media Milwaukee. “I can confirm that our students in London are all accounted for and are safe.” Four people, including a police officer and one man believed to the be the attacker, died in what London police are calling a “terrorist incident.” Photo by Miela Fetaw.Two people were killed and at least 20 injured after the attacker ran down pedestrians on Westminster Bridge, according to the AP. The suspect traveled from the bridge to outside the Houses of Parliament where he fatally stabbed the officer. The suspect was shot and killed by police. The surrounding area as well as nearly landmarks have been placed on lockdown, CNN reported. Marquette University spokesperson has also confirmed students studying abroad are safe. All 13 Marquette students currently studying in London and the nearby region are accounted for and confirmed to be safe. — Marquette Global (@MarquetteGlobal) March 22, 2017 The University of Wisconsin-Madison has 127 students currently studying in London. Meredith McGlone, the University of Wisconsin-Madison’s director of news and media relations, says “…[W]e we’re not aware of anyone affected” by attacks.
