Racism and Homophobia are Not Sexy: 5 People Who are Sexier Than Blake Shelton AND Woke Posted on December 10, 2017 by Rachael Harris Rest in peace all the beautiful men of Hollywood. Okay, they’re not actually dead but according to People Magazine they must be since they just named Blake Shelton 2017s “Sexiest Man Alive” and I’m not the only one upset. Every year, People Magazine gives one man the title of “Sexiest Man Alive.” This year, in perfect 2017 fashion, they named Blake Shelton. Now, Blake Shelton is fine and by fine, I mean adequate, but certainly not deserving of the title “Sexiest Man Alive.” Physically, Blake Shelton is just your average white guy, the ones who keep winning in 2017. So, it should come as no surprise that an open racist and homophobe won this year’s title. While Shelton is 6’5 and of average build, unlike the former SMA’s, he also used to have a wicked mullet. With his mullet and offensive tweets in mind, I propose these five celebrities who are not only more attractive than Shelton, but also woke: Drake B’s “soft guy” was not so soft when he called out a fan at his after show in Australia Wednesday night. In a world of Weinsteins and Spaceys it’s refreshing to see a celebrity call someone out as it’s happening. Drake is a perfect example of this using his platform to help victims. Even better, Drake threatened to go out into the crowd himself. While Drake may be “soft” to other rappers to women everywhere, he’s the real MVP. John Legend Maybe he’s better known as Chrissy Teigen’s husband these days, but musician John Legend is also a voice against gun violence. Legend has tweeted several times over the last few years about a call to gun control. He and his wife even had a fake argument on Twitter to show people just how silly their position on assault rifles really are. Legendary. Matt McGorry Orange is the New Black star Matt McGorry has been outspoken about his stance on gender equality. Even better, McGorry has apologized for oversimplifying feminism in the past and strives to be better. McGorry has also called on other males to be better feminists. Not only is he a feminist, but also a member of White People 4 Black Lives. Swoon. Jesse Williams Dr. Jackson Avery not only has the clearest green eyes but an active voice in the Black Lives Matter Movement. Like Drake, Jesse has used his platform to educate people about these issues. In his 2016 BET acceptance speech, Williams specifically acknowledged the struggles that black women face and vowed to do better for them. *fist bump* Channing Tatum Heartthrob Channing Tatum not only has washboard abs but also sympathy for sexual assault victims. After allegations against Harvey Weinstein came out, Tatum defended the women who have come forward. Tatum recognized these women the Harvey Weinstein and hailed them as heroes. Kudos Mr. Tatum. Shelton has apologized for his insensitive tweets claiming that he isn’t hateful, but a comedic. Whatever his reason may be, he has at least apologized and deserves a sliver of credit for that. However, I still can’t shake the idea that a 43-year-old country singing Trump supporter isn’t at least a little racist or homophobic. Sorry People Magazine but Blake Shelton is #NotMySexiestManAlive.
