I am a sucker for a Mexican steak tacos dish. Getting Mexican food, it is always difficult for me to choose where to go. My boyfriend’s favorite food is Mexican, so it is typical for us to pick a Mexican restaurant or food truck. It is always a discussion to go to a sit-down restaurant or picking it up quickly. We were looking to have more of a date night and have some margaritas. Habanero’s in Greenfield is a place that is very close to where we live and offered what we were looking for. Happy hour on Margaritas, and well-priced entrees. It seemed like a traditional Mexican restaurant with a modern twist, so we decided to check it out. Habanero’s in Greenfield opened a couple years ago, replacing what used to be a Hooter’s in the area. Having this spot being pretty much new, I had high hopes for the décor.

Habanero’s in Greenfield pleasantly surprised me and had great quality Mexican food. It had a beautiful outdoor patio and had Mexican décor that made it feel like we were in Mexico. Having this be a high-end looking restaurant inside, it had very well priced food. Well priced food to me, is having a large quantity of food for a reasonable price. The prices were reasonable for food given. This restaurant has large portions for the price. A theme I would correlate it is feeling like you are in Mexico.

My boyfriend and I made plans for date night a couple Friday nights ago to get quality Mexican food and to get sat right away. Friday nights are usually very busy in the restaurant business, and hoped we were not waiting long. When we walk in, there was immediate sitting in both the bar area, and the dining room. We chose to sit in the booths near the bar, and the bar was beautifully lit. The bar area had neon colors, but it was not overdone. It gave the place a cool bar theme, with it still being a dining restaurant. The dining room was more lit and had a more dining room feel.

They had both tables and booths to choose from. It was cool that they had two different atmospheres to the restaurant. The restaurant was steady, it did not seem overly busy, because there were still many seats open. The restaurant was clean, but there were a lot of knick knacks on the wall. There were many little objects inspired by Mexican culture spread all over the wall. It did add to the Mexican décor, but it seemed they collected dust over time.

Our server was very sweet, and she came to our table immediately. Good service is when I know we are taken care of right away. Someone knows to serve us, and welcomes us with a smile. That is exactly what happened. We ordered drinks and probably waited 5 minutes for the server to come back to us. Our drinks were on the stronger side for alcohol content, but still enjoyable. For an appetizer, I ordered the Quesadilla’s with chicken ($11.45). I love cheesy quesadillas and was hoping that is how they were going to be. I then ordered 3 steak tacos with cilantro, avocado, and cheese with Mexican beans and rice named the De La Calle ($13.45). My boyfriend ordered Habanero’s Chimichanga with ground beef ($12.95) with Mexican rice and beans. Our appetizer came out first, which is very important. Two cheesy quesadillas that were very large appeared on the plate. I was surprised it was an appetizer for how large it was, but we still ate it all.

After we ordered, our food probably only took 15 minutes. It was surprising how fast our food came out.  I do not mind waiting for food, because I would rather have It fresh. The food seemed fresh and hot as the server gave it to us. The portions were huge, which was exciting. I also knew I was not going to finish everything. The steak tacos were elevated in a metal holder, which was presented nicely. The food seemed prepared well, the steak was not to overdone. The beans were a little runny, but the rice was cooked perfectly. The portions on the tacos were also perfect, and not to messy. My boyfriend’s Chimichanga was a medium size. I have seen other restaurants serve larger Chimichangas, but for the price, it seemed correct. He finished his whole plate, but I could not finish all of mine. The plate can be cleared, but it was too much food for me. My boyfriend seemed overly full, and regretted eating too much. Habanero’s in Greenfield gives you a large portion of food for a lower cost.

Overall, the service was pleasant and there was not too much wait for a thing. We left full, and with some leftovers. Compared to all the Taco Bells, and Mexican food trucks, this was pleasantly different for the area. I recommend going to Habanero’s in Greenfield because they have great quality Mexican food, with a fun Mexican atmosphere. There was a very short amount of wait for everything, so it is perfect for sitting down and getting your food in a timely fashion. The restaurant is a good value for the costs, and very large portions. Customers will not leave hungry.
