Meghan and Prince Harry’s Baby Watch [OPINION] Posted on April 30, 2019April 30, 2019 by Emma Rafferty Within the last couple of days, we have learned the Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are planning on keeping the arrival of their first child private. This comes after the announcement that Meghan will not be giving birth at the Lindo Wing of St. Mary’s Hospital in London where the Duchess of Cambridge delivered all three of her children as well as Princess Diana. Prince Harry and Meghan announced that that they want to keep this private as they want to opportunity to celebrate their first born’s arrival as a new family and not share it with the world. So why are people up in arms over this? Isn’t this what thousands of families do each day? Personally, when I see moms posing for pictures mere hours after giving birth, I often question the importance of it and really the value. Not that I am a mother, but motherhood is not picture perfect. When seeing the photos of Prince William and Kate holding their newborns hours after being born seems dumb to me. The world had waited nine months for this child to be born they can wait a couple more days to see their first glimpse. Allow the parents to enjoy the new addition to their family without having to worry about their hair and makeup for the world. Considering Prince Harry and Meghan’s child won’t be in direct line to the throne I see no problem in them keeping this time to themselves. With social media and the internet, there are so many ways to stay connected that taking some time to enjoy their first child is something they shouldn’t have to share with the world. Prince Harry and Meghan should be able to do whatever they want when it comes to this birth. A new child is a great blessing to families and can be an overwhelming time to become adjusted to the new addition. Then add on the pressure of the world watching can be even more overwhelming. This is a decision the two of them make, not the world, and certainly not the queen.
