5 Podcasts That Will Make You Like Podcasts [OPINION]

Podcasts – AKA stories for your earholes – have become increasingly popular within the past few years (although, they’ve been around for, like, ever) and yet there is an entire population of people out there who are convinced they don’t like podcasts. They’re wrong – they just haven’t found their niche.

With literally everyone and their grandma hosting their own podcasts, streaming platforms are congested with an endless amount of voices speaking into the void hoping someone will care about what they have to say. Bypass all of that nonsense and give these five amazing, and very different podcasts a chance. There’s something for everyone.

1. Small Doses with Amanda Seales

Comedian Amanda Seales drops gems about every topic under the sun, including dating, self-care, Game of Thrones and being an independent woman (of color). Amanda speaks from the heart and personal experience in every episode and she definitely isn’t afraid to tell it like it is. You will laugh, you’ll ponder, you might even cry. Small Doses is definitely a must-listen for every woman on the journey to becoming her best self.

2. Ologies with Allie Ward

Thanks to comedian and science communicator Allie Ward, you’ll learn about every possible -ology (spoiler: there’s a lot). Listen to experts give detailed insight to everything from cosmology (the universe) to cosmetology (beauty) and felinology (cats) to etymology (the origin of words). Don’t worry about feeling lectured; Ward’s liberal use of sound effects and comedic commentary keeps things interesting.

3. Wine and Crime

Wine and Crime is one of the few podcasts that fuses two seemingly contradicting genres: true crime and comedy. Listen as three lifelong friends “chug wine, chat true crime and unleash their worst Minnesotan accents.” True crime aficionados will get their fix and a good laugh. Beware: their Minnesotan accents really are the worst.

4. Terrible, Thanks For Asking

If you like to cry (ugly sob) this podcast is for you. Host Nora McInerny asks, “how are you, really?” and shares beautifully candid and heart wrenching stories of the hardships her guests have endured. This is not a podcast for the faint-hearted, but rather for those who can appreciate the realness of being human.

5. Dissect

A Spotify exclusive, Dissect is every music geek’s dream podcast. Each season features in-depth, line-by-line dissections of some of music’s most elusive albums.
