Brunching Out of Milwaukee: Sheridan’s in Cudahy Posted on December 10, 2017 by Rachael Harris Rating System: 0 forks= unsatisfactory, poor 1 fork= well below average, did not meet standards 2 forks= average, nothing noteworthy 3 forks= above average, exceptional 4 forks= well above average, exceeded expectations 5 forks= exceptional, sets a new standard Restaurant name: Sheridan’s Restaurant address: 5133 S. Lake Drive Cudahy, Wisconsin 53110 Phone number of restaurant: 414-747-9800 Business hours: 7a.m.- 2 p.m. Brunch is a Milwaukee favorite, and there is no shortage of fantastic brunch spots in downtown Milwaukee. This past Saturday, my boyfriend and I wanted to get brunch before I had to work at 3 p.m. Since we were in a bit of a time crunch and with a home Marquette game at the Bradley Center as well as fellow weekend brunchers, we decided to try something different. He took me to one of his favorite hidden brunch spots called Sheridan’s in Cudahy. The restaurant offers fresh, seasonal spins on classic breakfast favorites as well as a small selection of soups, sandwiches and salads. The café uses a lot of locally sourced ingredients including Yuppie Hill eggs and herbs and vegetables grown in their own garden. Executive Chef Blake Bengsch has a history in both Milwaukee and Chicago. Bengsch has a lot of experience with seafood and Italian influences based on his previous positions. They also have a full bar as well as a full-service espresso bar featuring local favorite Valentine Coffee. Upon arriving, the neighborhood was surprising and it didn’t feel like the restaurant fit, but once inside it was clean and pleasant. The hotel and restaurant are right in the middle of a quiet neighborhood a few blocks from the lake with no other restaurants in sight. Inside, there were many windows that kept the space bright as well as some exposed cream city brick making the space feel rustic. Once inside, we were greeted promptly by a hostess who sat us and informed us our server would be by shortly. All the employees were wearing black slacks with a black collared shirt with the restaurants logo stitched on it which seemed appropriate for the casual environment. When our server arrived, she was extremely friendly and helpful informing us about the beverages available. I ordered a cup of coffee and a bloody Mary made with their spicy house-infused vodka. The Bloody Mary was very good and had the perfect amount of spice. For the garnish, the bloody came with a pickled green bean, cocktail onion, pickle and olive. I appreciated this garnish because I prefer pickled vegetables to meat and cheeses. The coffee was good, however, the server never asked if I wanted cream or sugar with my coffee, and I ended up just drinking it black. To be fair, I’m sure she would have been happy to oblige had I asked, but it wasn’t that important. She was very prompt and everything came out in a timely manner, less than 15 minutes to get our food after ordering. Overall the service was great other than not having the cream and sugar for my coffee so I give the service 4.5 out of 5 forks. I would rate the setting as 4 forks out of 5 because although it was clean and had pleasant décor, it did not fit with the neighborhood. We started our meal with a cranberry walnut loaf. The loaf was very moist and included whole cranberries and walnut pieces. We were both very hungry and the loaf came out very quickly, about five minutes after ordering. It was a little expensive, $9 for a small loaf, but it was delicious none the less. When our entrees came out we were both pleasantly surprised with those portions. I ordered scrambled eggs which came with my choice of potato, toast and protein. I chose hash browns, bacon and wheat toast. The hash browns were perfectly crispy and seasoned very well. The eggs were light and fluffy but not too wet. I also got four large slices of bacon with my meal of which I only ate one. My boyfriend ordered the butterscotch pecan French toast which he enjoyed but was a little too sweet for my taste. I did like how they used French bread rather than Texas toast for the dish but the butterscotch sauce was just too much. Overall, the food and drinks were a great value and I rate the overall value 4 forks out of 5. For taste, I thoroughly enjoyed everything and would rate all the food 5 forks out of 5. There really wasn’t anything I felt needed improvement other than just my preference in the butterscotch French toast. Overall, the entire experience was great. All the food was delicious and prepared exactly as described on the menu. The service was fast and friendly with only one minor issue. This was a great place to have a low-key weekend brunch but would also serve as a nice place for a casual weekday breakfast or lunch as well. I would absolutely recommend this restaurant to other people. Although it’s a little off the grid in Cudahy, it’s worth the short drive from downtown. My overall rating of Sheridan’s would have to be 4.5 forks out of 5. Cuisine Type: American/brunch Price per entrée: $10-$20 Attire: Casual Reservations: Yes.
