Milwaukee Native Plans on Giving Back to His Community Through Cryptocurrency

Christopher Perceptions is a Milwaukee native who plans to give the Milwaukee community access to learning about cryptocurrency.

Cryptocurrency and Bitcoin are relatively new concepts at 13 years-old, a pimple popping teenager according to Perceptions, created by the pseudonymous person ‘Satoshi Nakamoto.’ According to Perceptions, gold is God’s money, fiat is the government’s money, but Bitcoin is the people’s money.

His foundation, PerceptForm, created its pillars with one question in mind: What does it take for people to have everything they need? To him this meant a way to transact (Finance), a way to learn (Education), a way to create (Art) and a space to create (Real Estate).

“I’d love to be a part of creating Milwaukee Coin.” said Perceptions. “It could be used to combat crime. Kids can learn to yield revenue through Bitcoin, and suddenly they may not have to steal to afford rent, pay bills, go to prom, anything really.”

Cryptocurrency is an ever-evolving idea, spreading all over the world including Puerto Rico. Before visiting Puerto Rico, the media had our group convinced that cryptocurrency was a well-established idea on the island already and was fast-moving. Once we arrived the group had realized this wasn’t the case. The idea was there, but it was still evolving and establishing at a much slower rate than previously thought to be.

While in Rincon, Puerto Rico, each shop owner seemed rather confused when asked about Bitcoin. According to Samuel González Rodríguez, our volunteer guide for the trip, it was important the group came to the island to see for ourselves how easily things can be misconstrued.

However, the idea has made its way into Milwaukee. According to Perceptions, Bitcoin has no source. It is distributed on a block chain, which is blocks of data chained together securely. This data could include NFTs for example, or even medical records. The digital value in some way shape or form, is a decentralized peer to peer payment network, according to Perceptions. There is no central or single point of failure.

Giving marginalized communities access to learning about cryptocurrency, is something personal to Perceptions.

“Before I saw what success could look like for me, I saw a dead body in Milwaukee because of my environment,” said Perceptions. “I never necessarily came from money, and I’ve seen the brunt of systematic barriers.”

According to Perceptions, based on his zip code there were already a few statistics projected onto him growing up. He became inspired to outrun these statistics and later share his success with his community.

“I want people from the environments I come from to understand that the things you’re experiencing are very real.” said Perceptions. “Find your superpower, find your voice, find that thing that can’t be denied from you.”

Within the next five years, Perceptions hopes to see tokenization of land. He’d like to create a micro community and an Upper Eastside of Milwaukee that is crypto centric. Most importantly he hopes to see residents of the marginalized Milwaukee communities given a fraction of equity.
