“Great place to hang out and stunning view over the city from up there.”

The Pfister Hotel has been a Milwaukee landmark since 1893 that stands as a symbol of luxury and elegance in the heart of the city. Known for its stunning architecture and rich history, the hotel has been a hub for both travelers and public figures for over a century. Kennan Smith, a long time Milwaukee resident, visited the hotel for Doors Open Milwaukee to learn about the unique space.

What do you already know about the Pfister?

I know that the hotel has been here for ages and that they try to keep things pretty old fashioned here, in a good way. I also know about how a lot of U.S. presidents have stayed here in the past.

Do you have any previous experiences here?

I have never stayed overnight here but I’ve been to the bar up top by the pool. Great place to hang out and stunning view over the city from up there.

What are your first impressions as you walked in the door?

Walking in is like the best part of coming here. It feels like you’re walking into a completely different era with everything going on in here. The lobby feels like an old Victorian mansion with the high ceilings, chandeliers, and beautiful artwork.

Of all the artwork, does one piece stand out to you the most?

Everything catches your eyes for sure and it can be a lot to take in, but the most interesting to me is the giant mural on the ceiling above the lobby.

What do you think of the blend between the Pfister’s historical architecture and modern amenities?

I love it, it’s definitely a vibe that you won’t find anywhere else in the city, especially from a hotel. The blend makes you appreciate the historical aspect of the building while being able to enjoy all of the benefits from an upscale hotel like this.

How does the Pfister compare to other locations you have visited today?

Out of all of them, this is the place I would want to come and hang out for a while. There is a greater sense of elegance however. I feel like I would need to dress up a little bit more before I came back.

Do you plan on visiting again in the future?

Absolutely, if I need a hotel the Pfister is the spot, even if that means spending a lot more money. I learned how welcoming this environment is thanks to the friendly staff and other guests.
