I’m a Millennial Woman, and I Support Hillary Clinton

The world is a hard place for women in politics. I am one of those women, but I also come from generations of women involved in politics and their communities. My aunt started Women Impacting Public Policy and has brunches with the First Lady herself, along with being well known in the Clinton campaign. She is a strong and confident woman in politics and has taught me to do the same.

Six months ago, I began an internship with a company that is affiliated with Hillary Clinton, and it has opened my eyes to a world of politics that I never thought possible. I am not only volunteering on the Clinton campaign, but I am also working on grassroots campaigns around Milwaukee. I reach out to the community, and I learn to understand what those in my own backyard want in a candidate: stability.

Working on campaigns has taught me to never have high expectations or be let down; this causes weakness. Politics isn’t easy; it’s stressful, exhausting days that lead to incredible events and outcomes. You learn to never give up until the job is done correctly and the outcome is perfect. It isn’t wearing a white hat and being glamorous all the time like Olivia Pope either. Working on a campaign means endless phone calls and driving all over town to deliver yard signs. The remedial things pay off when you do get to experience the glamour at private events that only the high society folk get to attend, and you’re just a 20-year-old college student who worked their ass off to get the perfect internship. I am lucky to be at this internship, but I didn’t get there because of luck. I got there because I knew my worth and what I am capable of, and that capability led me to become a Hillary Clinton supporter.

I support Hillary because she is tough, strong and definitely not afraid to back away from a fight; it just helps that she’s an independent woman who looks fierce in a pantsuit, especially a yellow one. She wants to further the blueprints that the Obama Administration set forth. She doesn’t want to dismantle a fine healthcare system such as Obamacare, she just wants to make it even better. Hillary Clinton is someone who openly backs Planned Parenthood 100 percent. That is hard to find with the recent debates over the Affordable Care Act.

Bernie Sanders is extreme; Hillary Clinton is moderate and able to sustain a suitable government that will truly make the United States of America the amazing country that it once was. Having someone as extreme as Bernie Sanders in office will destroy the government that our Founding Fathers set up for us; Hillary Clinton will keep our government stable.

In recent news, the media has glorifyied the insults of young women who support Sanders. Those insults are coming from none other than Gloria Steinem and Madeleine Albright. “There is a special place in hell for women who don’t help other women,” said Albright at a Clinton rally. This, however, is not the first time that Albright has said this. She has been saying this for years and more specifically saying it in the context that women should support each other because for years no one else was. Albright has been saying this for so long that it ended up on a Starbucks cup; I don’t think Bernie Sanders wasn’t running for president when that happened.

On another note, Gloria Steinem has apologized for saying that “young women support Bernie Sanders to meet boys.” I am not condoning what Steinem said; I am however saying that the media need to realize that I am not alone when I say that I am a Millennial woman who supports Hillary Clinton.

Hillary Clinton has done everything she can to support women throughout her entire adult life. Women should not just support women, but they should support men as well. Hillary is making waves in the political spectrum and because of that I am in support of her. Yes she is a woman, but she a role model for everyone.

“I am not asking people to support me because I am a woman,” said Hillary Clinton during the Democratic Debate. “I am asking people to support me because I have the experience.”

When the Obama Administration took office, they turned to Hillary Clinton for help in foreign affairs and named her Secretary of State. She has the experience to be our next president.

My support and dedication towards her campaign has got me to where I am today, inside the press file and spin room at the Democratic debate right here at UW-Milwaukee, where I am a student.

Being inside a ballroom full of esteemed press personnel truly feels like a dream. The energy is off the charts with every single person on the phone, on all social media platforms, and then watching actual live broadcasts take place right before my eyes. Being a young woman in the press file room has showed me that I am capable of anything and everything.

Attending the debate has allowed me to receive my first big break in media by having a video of a Fight for 15 protest being shared from my personal Instagram page to a news sharing website. I am truly honored to be here not only as a Hillary supporter but also as someone who is making the connections to further my career.

Young people need to understand that with Hillary in the White House, we can have the stable government that America needs. Supporting Hillary Clinton has led me to where I am today and showed me that I can do anything not only as a woman, but also as a millennial.
