Milwaukee Social Media Networking Event Draws Influencers

Hashtag MKE is “Milwaukee’s premiere networking community for content creators and social media enthusiasts.” It began in 2017 by JMatt because it was difficult for people to look for locals working in the social media industry. In life, it is not what you know it is who you know. In events such as Hashtag MKE, you can build connections, network, and mingle with people who have similar ideas and goals in life.

In October, the event was hosted in The Iron Horse Hotel. The venue had tables and chairs of all sorts to make you feel comfortable and, at the entrance, there was a billboard where you could add your social media handles and add one another.

It was hosted as a normal event just to connect with others. But they have more than just making connections. Hashtag MKE hosts a variety of networking events, meetups, and workshops for content creators, influencers, and social media marketers.

“I’ve been attending the meetings since they started back in 2017. I have been to almost every single event since,” said Matt Curtis. Creator Relations Manager at Go Super Awesome.

What it looks like is a place for people who just talk and get to know each other. But what in reality you get to learn about what people do in the world of social media and marketing.

If you’re a young college student or someone who is trying to break into the world of content creation Hashtag MKE is a place to begin and chat with others for advice and all sorts.

“I’d say to focus on what you enjoy the most and let that fuel your content,” said Matt Curtis. “Content requires a lot of time and dedication and it is easy to burn out because consistency is so important, that can kill your momentum.”

“I just started doing it for fun and kinda took off from there,” said Charlie Antoine.

The events are only limited to the city of Milwaukee.

“It’s fun to learn about what different people use social media for and how they plan to leverage new features,” said Charlie Antoine. (IG: @abovemke).

Whether this is your first or hundredth time going to Hashtag MKE, you get to see quickly how the events work.

“The diversity in skills, experience, and interests there are combined with the collaborative atmosphere make it very inviting for people to meet and problem-solve in such a fast-paced industry,” said Matt Curtis. Creator Relations Manager at Go Super Awesome.

To become a member is simple; all you have to do is attend two meetings then you’re in. While that all may seem so simple there isn’t much that you need. Hashtag MKE is just another way of helping one another with anything in the community on social media.

“Being a part of the community is a benefit. Oftentimes in social media marketing (and even content creation, if you have that role you’re often the only person on your team,” said JMatt. Founder of Hashtag MKE

There have been people who have been attending since the very beginning and always think it is a great way to meet with others around the city.

“I enjoy connecting people, so the more people I meet through events and social media, the more connections I can assist with,” said JMatt.

Hashtag MKE hosts their events every second Thursday of the month. The next one will be on Nov 6th. will be in the Dead Bird Brewery with special guest Ashton Crawley (IG: @Ashton.Crawley) – Online Personal Trainer, and Charlie Antoine (IG: @EliteSportsClub) – Marketing Specialist for Elite Sports Club.
