5 Must Watch Throwback Disney Channel Original Movies on Disney Plus

With all the steaming wars madness going on, finally there is some silence. Disney Plus just launched, and it has a huge advantage. If you are not part of the 10 million people who have subscribed to Disney Plus in the first day, then you are missing out. Most of us know about the new release and unless you live under a rock, you have heard all about it and all the throwbacks that are available. With close to 500 films and thousands of TV episodes, there is plenty to keep you busy for your winter binge.

Here is my list for the top 5 best Disney Channel Original Movies to watch on Disney Plus.

5. The Luck of the Irish (2001)

Feel old yet? This movie is 18 years old but definitely not forgotten. After Kyle finds out his family is leprechauns, he realizes that the gold coin that has brought him so much luck for years not only brings him luck but also allows him and his family to pass as normal humans until the coin is stolen. Throughout the movie, Kyle tracks down the thief in hopes to become a normal human again (imdb.com). This oldie but goodie really shows the different cultures and struggles they face in the American world. If you are looking for a blast from the past, this one is it.

4. Get a Clue (2002)

We loved her, we have hated her, but we always come back to her. The great Disney star, Lindsay Lohan plays a high school student that writes for her school’s newspaper in the advice column. This one was always one of my favorites because it had a good storyline and was always interesting. When one of her teachers that is featured in an article she wrote goes missing, Lexy (Lindsay Lohan) and her friends go and try to solve the disappearance (disneychannel.com). Other familiar faces appear in this throwback, like Brenda Song and Ali Mukaddam. Any Lindsay Lohan film is worth watching.

3. The Cheetah Girls (2003)

Cheetah girls, cheetah sisters, am I right? This gem never fails to bring back some old memories. In case you have forgotten, this one follows a group of friends, based in Manhattan as they perform in their music and dance group also known as The Cheetah Girls. As the girls are getting ready for their big high school talent show, they get noticed by a record producer. Good thing the girls didn’t want to change their name like the record producer wanted them too. This film did a great job at tugging at the hearts of viewers but also showing the challenges of friendships and achieving dreams. (disneychannel.com) If you find yourself in the dancing and singing mood this Friday night, The Cheetah Girls movie is the way to go.

2. High School Musical (2006)

We know that nobody forgot about our teen heartthrob, Troy Bolton, but in case you did, watching High School Musical will refresh your memory. The small-town high school basketball star, Troy Bolton, falls for the geeky girl during their winter vacation. Little does Troy know, but Gabriella is the new girl at his high school in the spring. The movie shows the two and their little love story as Troy struggles with wanting the be a basketball star and a singing star. Gabriella being the nerdy shy girl and getting up on stage and performing. The film is a good tease of our childhood as they show Troy and Gabriella star in the school musical overcoming their struggles and fears and go against the norm (disneychannel.com).  If you’re in need of some comedy, tears, and some sing a long’s, High School Musical is for you.

1. Camp Rock (2008)

Last, but surely not least, the ultimate sing-along, Camp Rock. As Demi Lovato and the Jonas Brothers are making their debut in 2019, it’s always a good time to watch where their careers started. In this film, young singer strives and competes with campers at the tough rock camp, Camp Rock. Mitchie, works hard to perfect her talents while she gets help from one of the instructors, Shane Gray (aka Joe Jonas), who made it big from this camp previously (disneychannel.com). This throwback shows the highs and lows in the music industry along with showing what it takes to make it into the spotlight.
