The Impeccable Performance of The Trump Impeachment Inquiry [OPINION]

It seems as though even if you live under a rock you’ve heard that President Trump is facing an impeachment inquiry into a supposed quid pro quo agreement that promised military aid to Ukraine in exchange for an investigation into former Vice President Biden. This far into the Trump Presidency, we’ve come to learn that there’s not much the Commander in Chief could do to sway the support of his voters and his fellow Republican lawmakers away from him. As impeachment proceedings fumble forward, news outlets have stood diligently by to offer updates by the minute of the impeachment hearings and offer their sage input. Damning testimony has spilled forth with each witness. Several Republican officials, including Senator Ron Johnson of Wisconsin, still offer their staunch support of the President. In the same vein of logic, there’s not much that Trump could do to curb the hatred he’s acquired from the Left. It begs the question: who is this impeachment inquiry seeking to convince? In his own words, President Trump could “stand in the middle of 5thavenue and shoot somebody” and not lose the loyalty of his supporters. Scandal after scandal, the President’s words ring true.  Has the American government lost its ability to hold itself, as a body, accountable? The 2019 impeachment inquiry has turned into one grand performance. Trump, bedecked in .99 cent self-tanner, is the star. It is high time the theatrics were abandoned. Republicans and Democrats should quit the ruckus, get this guy out of office, and let America move forward.

The likelihood of impeachment is growing more tangible with each testimony and each piece of evidence. But the legal motions of the process are unlikely to loosen the partisan deadlock holding the United States hostage. In fact, if and when the impeachment is finalized, it’s likely we’ll see more pointed fingers thrown across Washington than we’ve seen since the election. If evidence supports the quid pro quo exchange between Trump and Ukraine, the Congressional officials adamantly defending Trump through the bitter end would ideally face some contest from their constituents for sheltering the actions of a man who sought to undermine Democracy.

The United States Government was established with the intention that it’s various branches would hold itself accountable. It seems laughable now as the two parties find themselves frozen like dueling bucks; antlers locked, hooves scuffing up dirt. The Republican officials associated with Trump continue to fervently sweep dust under the rug and hope the cloud remains too thick to see through while the Democrats, perched atop the highest horse, declare that this straw has broken the camel’s back for the tenth time this year. The ruckus leaves one wondering; is this a democracy or a stage production? Enough with the flashy production, it is time to close the curtain.
