Cody Wichmann Becomes 4th UW-Milwaukee Player to Request Release Posted on March 29, 2016March 29, 2016 by Paul Willems UWM junior forward Cody Wichmann, who recently lamented that the Panthers’ basketball team was having a “break up” has requested his release from the program, making him the fourth player who has done so since last Wednesday. It’s kind of sad seeing the team “break up” like this.. — Cody Wichmann (@cdwichmann33) March 23, 2016 The same day he also Tweeted: Not exactly how I envisioned my senior year tbh… — Cody Wichmann (@cdwichmann33) March 23, 2016 Wichmann joins Austin Arians, Jordan Johnson and Akeem Springs, who requested their releases last week following the firing of former coach Rob Jeter on March 17 and the team not being allowed to enter post-season play. Senior Associate Athletic Director William Behrns confirmed Wichmann’s request to Media Milwaukee, adding that there have been no additional requests from other players at this time. According to the team’s website, Wichmann Pulaski High School “to its first-ever state title in any sport as a senior in 2012-13.” As a Panther, in 2013-14, he “saw action in 27 contests off the bench and pitched in 2.5 points and 0.5 rebounds per game.” Wichmann averaged 4.8 points per game off the bench this season for the Panthers, with a season-high of 12 against Cleveland State on February 20th. Johnson had a breakout season after transferring to UWM from John Wood Community College, breaking the school’s single-season and single-game assist records while averaging 12.5 points and 8.1 assists per game. Springs came second in the team in scoring at 13.2 per contest in addition to 5.3 rebounds per game. Arians was the first to request release. Arians was one of the key players from this season’s team, averaging 11.4 points and 3.8 rebounds per game. He was also a threat from 3-point range, connecting on 79 shots from behind the arc. Many have expressed disappointment about the situation with Rob Jeter via social media. One of these individuals is Justin Litscher, Arians’ AAU coach.
