Milwaukee shares its excitement for Brewers home opener.

Excited crowds of Milwaukee Brewers fans showed up at American Family Field for the team’s home opener of a season that a few weeks earlier looked like it was in jeopardy.

Opening Day was delayed after an MLB lockout resulted in a shortened offseason and left some fans wondering if this day would ever come. Regardless of the chilly weather and freezing winds, fans still came bundled up for pregame festivities and tailgating in the parking lot.

The Brewers announced that in honor of the home opener being on 4/14, the same date for Milwaukee day, the team held special events to mark the occasion. According to the Brewers, local businesses were invited to the stadium with stands and food trucks placed all throughout the stadium. Fans could purchase upper terrace tickets for a special rate of $4.14, which the team said sold out in less than 90 minutes.

Brewers fan Charlie Johnson was one of many fans cheering in the parking lot before the game. He was excited about the upcoming season and hoping to see his team go for it all.

“I think we got a really great team this year and we think they got what it takes to make some noise,” said Johnson. “It’s a fun time when your team is playing good.”

The road to reach this home opener for the Milwaukee Brewers is different from previous years. Following a 100-day lockout between the MLB and the MLBPA due to negotiations involving the newest collective bargaining agreement. The lockout brought into question if the team would reach this day, but now fans gather outside American Family Field ready to cheer on their team.

Drew Michaels was one of these local fans waiting outside the stadium ready to cheer on the Brewers.

“Look, it’s really cold out right now, but it’ll all be worth it as long we beat the Cardinals,” said Michaels.

Longtime Brewers fan Jake Smith was someone that was just happy for baseball to be back after a prolonged off-season.

“We got the Bucks about to another run and now baseball is finally back, it’s a great time to be a fan of our teams here,” said Smith.

Even fans unable to make it in person for the game showed their support online on social media platforms like Twitter. The Brewers socials petitioned fans unable to come to post their support under #414Crew. The #414Day and #414Crew even briefly trended on twitter with the help of the Brewers fans taking to social media.

Fans across the state and beyond posted their hopes and excitement on Twitter wishing those in attendance the best. Fans like Megan Brown tweeted “With y’all at AmFam in spirit.”

The Brewers came into their home opener with an even record of 3-3, against the division leader and rival St. Louis Cardinals. Milwaukee fans left happy as the Brewers won the home opener against the Cardinals 5-1.
